Feedback von KlientInnen in Gestalttherapie

CLIENT, therapy sessions, english

For what reason/ reasons did you seek support in the form of therapy/ counselling?

I was feeling depressed, sad, not happy and experiencing anxiety and panic attacks.

Did you have a specific goal with therapy/ counselling?

Basically, my main goal was to feel happy again.

Did this goal change or was it supplemented during therapy/ counselling? If so, how?

My main goal didn`t change, but it was supplemented by ways how I work on myself. I never thought that using quite simple methods, like            exercises we can learn how to change our mind, behaviour and how do we feel. It was a really exciting and fun thing to discover and work             on!

Did you reach your goal or substeps of it?

Yes, I reached my goal and even much more. I learned how to work with myself in various life situations, how to calm down, meditate and             behave around other people. I discovered how surprisingly bright and complex human mind is, and how it is important to learn how you can       work on it.

Did some of the experiences in therapy/ counselling make you try out new things with other people or in other contexts?

Yes, I learned how to meditate and in this way to calm down in various situations, even when I can`t fall asleep - it really works! Also, I                    learned to be more straight forward to people. I`m being more ´aggressive` and standing up to myself, but at the same time understanding            that I can`t change certain people (as people in general) and now I find ways how to approach them, so I don`t feel stressed/ annoyed. I                learned to accept and appreciate people for what they are. I think learning this helped me to become a better person.

Your final, summarizing feedback to your therapy/ counselling precess with me:

I am really happy, that I chose you to be my therapist. In the beginning I kind of didn`t expect anything. I just wanted to feel happy again, but      during the process I experienced and learned so much. It was exciting, surprising, interesting and fun to see how easily we can work with

our minds in order to feel better.

For me it was really easy to feel comfortable with you. I felt safe. Everything that I`ve tried during the therapy was exciting and new. After            every session I could feel a progress.

I want to thank you again. I would totally recommend you for my friends/ family who seek for help. And I actually already did :)

     Thank you!

For what reason/ reasons did you seek support in the form of therapy/ counselling?

I was very unhappy and did not understand why as I had the ingredients to a great life.

Did you have one or more aha-moments/ eye openers during our sessions? If yes, please describe it briefly.

I think a big moment was when I imagined how my sister felt when I talk to her.

I also really liked ´You can only give 100% of who you are today`. I use that a lot and even shared it with some friends.

Have you noticed changes due to therapy/ counselling in how you deal with yourself/ others and how you are in contact with yourself/ others?

Yes, I try to make my boundaries more clear and accept that other people won`t know them without me making it transparent.

Do you see changes through therapy/ counselling?

I have more sense of who I am and a realisation that everything will go up and down. This is somehow comforting.

Your final, summarizing feedback to your therapy/ counselling process with me:

I feel that I really got a lot from our sessions together and that it was really important and helpful. I would like to continue with them when the opportunity is there.

For what reason/ reasons did you seek support in the form of therapy/ counselling?

I had difficulties identifying and accepting my needs. I had depressive episodes. I had a low sense of self-worth.

Did you have a specific goal with therapy/ counselling?

Not entirely - but generally, to become more accepting of myself.

Did this goal change or was it supplemented during therapy/ counselling? If so, how?

The goal became clearer during therapy - or in other words, the importance of it became clear, as well as the fact that I first need to accept the importance/ right to self-acceptance before starting to work on it.

Did you reach your goal or substeps of it? If yes, how did you do that? If no, what do you think why not?

I reached it to a certain extent. But I do feel like I have a lot of work ahead of me still. I did that by allowing the words I heard in therapy to really ´sink in`; luckily - the therapist made this possible by creating a kind and trustworthy atmosphere.

Did all the topics that were important to you have enough space during therapy/ counselling? If not, why not and what would you have needed of me to mention what you did not speak about or work on issues we did not work on?

Maybe not all, but that`s mainly due to lack of time. A bit more attention/ time could perhaps have been spent on issues of ´guilt`.

Which experiences were new for you during our sessions?

Many! Awareness of my body, dialoguing with parts of myself or others (the chair thing), and in general that it became much clearer how I actually ´treat myself`.

Did some of the new experiences make you try out new things with other people or in other contexts?

Yes. I am often clearer on expressing my needs and/ or boundaries.

Have you noticed changes due to therapy/ counselling in how you deal with yourself/ others and how you are in contact with yourself/ others?

Yes. I am more aware of falling into unhealthy patterns (especially in relationships) and try to recognize them sooner rather than later.

What did you miss in the therapy/ counselling process with me? What did you wish for what I did not offer? What were you disappointed about, what did irritate you, what made you angry or did even harm you?

Oh, what a tough question. There were no disappointments, to be honest, except that some sessions felt a bit ´neutral`or not clearly helpful, but I wouldn`t say that disappointed me - perhaps it just didn`t feel so productive ... but that was rare. Nothing harmed me or irritated me. I would just liked to have had more regular sessions.

What did you especially like about therapy/ counselling with me? What did encourage you in your personal progress?

Your warmth, openness and sensitivity, as well as honesty created a strong sense of trust and even safety, which meant a lot to me personally. I felt that you were clearly ´on my side`, but objectively, which allowed a sense of guidance and support. It was enriching for me to feel what it is like to ´be seen`, and inspired me to see myself the way I am (or at least try).
